Our Story

KH Farm is named in honor of my father, Kenneth Hoffman.

In 1945, Kenneth Hoffman moved to Atascosa County, Texas and bought 10 acres of irrigated farmland.  This 10 acres was the beginning of Kenneth’s lifelong dream. His farming operation continued west of Poteet, Texas when he rented farm land to raise cut flowers, vegetables, and a few cattle. Kenneth’s hard work led him to be a very prosperous farmer his entire life.  He could literally make anything grow and produce.

In the Fall of 1952, Kenneth began growing strawberries and soon became the largest strawberry grower in Poteet.  He was very successful in the Poteet Strawberry Festival growers’ contest, winning Grand Champion five times, Reserve Grand Champion six times, and being named Strawberry Grower of the Year in 1987.

Although he was a very successful farmer, more importantly, Kenneth was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather who left us with his legacy in 2016.

Having grown up surrounded by strawberry fields, one of the sweetest pleasures was picking strawberries right off the stem and eating them with my family. When I inherited the heart of the farm, my ambition was to share that farm life with our community. We introduced a pick-your-own strawberry experience to allow our visitors to have a taste of my childhood in rural Texas. Now, due to COVID-19, we have restructured our harvesting activities, committing more towards PRE-Picked and PRE-ordered retail and wholesale commercial sales. We now open our farm for pick-your-own to mostly Saturdays during the strawberry season.

In my father’s footsteps, my husband, Vance Schultze, and I received Strawberry Growers of the year in 2019. Our goal is to continue to expand as much as the land will allow, and to always produce the best quality produce possible, while still providing the best service to our customers. We invite you to join us and to experience all that KH Farm has to offer.
